Collecting stories about cycling in Perth

I'm writing a book about cycling in Perth, to be published in spring 2010, and I am looking for people to interview - or stories and photos to run, if anyone fancies writing articles themselves.

It will be called Velo-City: Perth and will be an appreciation of Perth and cycling and how well they go together, but I don't want it to just be me banging on about it, so I really want to get as many people into the book as possible. I'm looking for a wide range of stuff, from people's stories about how they got into cycling; to their beefs about infrastructure (or delight at a favourite bit of PSP); experience with insurance companies.

Perhaps you have thoughts you like to share about:

  • Helmet wearing
  • Red lights – is it ever better to not wait for the green?
  • Uses for old tubes
  • Cures for numb toes or saddle sores
  • Favourite coffee shops
  • Favourite pre-ride and mid-ride snacks
  • Bell ringing – communication tool or annoyance?
  • Experiences at the mass participation events

If you don't want to write a whole piece about, say helmet laws, or the freeway ride, you could just put your main thoughts in bullet points, or even give me a one liner that sums it up.

On the side panel of this blog are some other suggestions – it’s a bit like a shopping list at the moment, so excuse the lack of structure.
